We all create goals for what we’d like to accomplish, but sometimes different road blocks get in the way and for whatever reason we struggle to reach our goals. Whether it may be family, kids, work, school or friends, we have to find time to reach our goals, or they will never happen. So how do we find time to reach our goals and maintain our regular everyday lifestyle?
Here are 5 ways to stay on track with your goals:
#1: Gain Clarity
Before you can begin working towards your dream, you have to have a road map for where you are going. Having a plan for where you’d like to get to will make staying on track much easier, and making things easier will help you maintain your motivation to reach the goal. We all know that if you don’t stay motivated in reaching your goal, it will make getting there much harder.
#2: Take A Look At What Matters Most
You may feel like you have a ton of things to take care of, and just don’t have the time to add something new. With that, you have to create priorities and focus on what’s most important and then work your way down to what is least important. Create a list so you can use it as a guide. Sometimes there are so many things that we may want to do, that it doesn’t always feel like there is enough time in a day to get it all accomplished. Take a step back and think about what you do each day. A lot of what we do is simply out of habit, and realizing that will help you to focus on your goals and lose some of the dead weight.
Now that you’ve taken a look at the things that matter most and have had the time to think about your priorities, focus on decluttering. Get rid of the things that you are doing more out of habit instead of intent. This will help you to have a clearer understanding about what you want to work on first and what is more important to you. Decluttering will be hard because sometimes we feel like everything is important and we don’t really want to stop doing anything, but its important to prioritize so that you can accomplish the goals that are most important to you, and then you can work your way down your list and focus on other tasks.
For me, starting a blog was a huge goal. It took months of planning and research before I was finally able to launch the blog and share with everyone. I had no idea how I was going to accomplish this goal and be successful with it at the same time, especially when it came to consistently posting and being able to share with everyone. I had to sit down and think about what I had going on in my life and how I was going to balance adding another very important goal to the list. When attempting to ween somethings out, I realized that I did A LOT of things out of habit and getting rid of some of those things allowed me to consistently have time to create content for my blog.
#4: What To Expect
When we put our goals into place, we always have an expectation for ourselves or an “end goal.” Think about what you hope to accomplish by reaching the goal and the steps you will take to get to the goal. It is important to start off with reasonable expectations. Don’t shoot for unreachable stars. It’s important to think this through and research if you have to. While you may want to accomplish your goal in a short amount of time, it’s important for you to know that it could take you a little longer to reach that goal, and that’s okay just don’t give up. Your goal may take you a little while longer to reach, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be worth it. Just keep pushing.
#5: Create A System That Works
Make sure that you create a system that works well given the amount of time. Try to work towards creating efficient systems that will allow you to complete a task or goal, but in the best way possible and in the shortest amount of time. If you have a goal that takes you 2 hours each day that should really take 1, you probably should readjust. Once you do, you’ll be able to apply that time to your new goal.
